Units of measurement:
main
1/4 Pound Bacon, bulk unsliced
1 Cup yellow onion, diced
1 Cup Apple, diced small
2 Pound Cabbage, green, sliced
To Taste salt
To Taste ground black pepper
12 Ounce Beer, light

Step

  • 1

When ready to cook, start the Traeger grill and set the temperature to 325 degrees F (160 C) and preheat, lid closed, for 10 to 15 minutes.

  • 2

On a stovetop, heat a large heavy pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the bacon and cook until crisp (about 5 mins). Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels.

  • 3

Return the pot to medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes, or until golden brown. Add the apple, stir, then add the cabbage. Sprinkle generously with salt and a touch of black pepper and stir for 3 minutes.

  • 4

Pour in the beer and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cover and move the pot immediately into the Traeger.

  • 5

Cook at 325 degrees F (160 C) for 10 minutes. Remove lid and cook for an additional 10-15 more minutes, or until cabbage is tender and most of the liquid has evaporated.
