Auger Motor Pin

What Is an Auger Pin?

An auger motor pin in is a nut and bolt with a few threads at the top and a long shoulder that secures the auger in place inside the auger shaft. Older models have a quick release (QR) pin rather than a traditional nut and bolt. Historically, Traeger has called the auger motor pin a shear pin.

What does an auger motor pin look like?

Auger Motor Pin Location

The auger motor pin is located behind the auger motor before the auger bushing. See the photo below for reference.

Accessing the Auger Motor Pin

  1. Remove the 4 screws on the bottom of the hopper, holding the hopper grate in place.
  2. Remove the 4 screws securing the hopper to the grill.
  3. Carefully remove the hopper grate and hopper shell.
  4. Now you will be able to see/access the auger motor/auger motor pin.

Missing Auger Motor Pin

If the auger motor pin is missing, it likely came loose in shipping and can be found inside the grill. If you can locate it rather than replace it, you will not have to wait for the replacement.

Steps to Take Before Replacing

  1. Look in the hopper and jiggle the grill to see if the auger pin is floating around inside the grill.
  2. Check around the area that the grill is/was getting assembled. The auger motor pin sometimes falls out into the box or onto the ground.
  3. If you still can't find the auger motor pin, call Customer Service.
